Senior High Mission Trip

Our mission trips offer an opportunity for young people to travel to under-developed areas in the United States to understand the problems, as well as cultures, that segregate us from those struggling with issues of poverty and despair. Youth learn new skills, serve in leadership roles and have fun as they serve the homeless . . . rehab or build new housing . . . provide activities for children . . . visit hospitals or veteran’s groups . . . and improve the environment. Our Senior High school mission trip program is week-long mission trip to areas of need located anywhere in the United States. Past groups have traveled to Denver, Colorado; Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota; the bayou of Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina; Washington, D.C.; Appalachia; and, the Eastern Seaboard. There are manditory monthly meetings and fundraisers prior to the trip. During the trip the group gathers for daily Reflections to discuss our Christian responsibility to engage ourselves actively and spiritually in our work projects.
A little about our trip this year: Low-income, qualifying, homeowners on the seacoast of Maine need weather-tight residences to qualify for a government stimulus program that provides insulation and heating assistance during the winter months. Last year our mission trip group put a new roof on three homes, installed windows and doors, patched leaks, painted and sealed a farmhouse, and renovated a kitchen for a local church. We also fundraised and donated $6,500 cash and $1,200 in supplies to the community. With so much more to do our youth volunteers chose to return to “Maine Seacoast Mission” again in June of 2010.
